What's this?

Forgot about this here thingy....

I didn't do anything with my garden this year. Probably just as well, given the nature of the soil. So just recently I dug out all the grass that had grown over it during the summer, then did something called double-digging. That's when you dig a trench of dig, putting the dirt in a wheelbarrow, lay down a layer of compost or mulch, then dig the next trench and slide the dirt into the first trench. It's supposed to improve the quality of the soil, and the clayey stuff we have here certainly needs improvement. I've put a layer of cut grass that's been sitting around for a few months on top to protect the surface.

Now I just need to get a tiller or similar.

Plans for planting include: tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and maybe pumpkins. I'm going to also try planting basil around the tomatoes, as it's supposed to deter hornworms. And as usual, I'll have a crop of marigolds (they invaded my flowerbed so I'll have plenty of seeds).

If I can get Dad to build me a garden shed, I'll be set to go for next year!
